Material Technology is the favourite specialization for most students at MRIS. The work students undertake involves research, technical and design drawings, working with materials including; wood, paint, clay, plastics, electronics, and metals. They also learn to use a wide variety of machinery while focusing on "SAFETY FIRST ... ALWAYS".
All students experience fourteen, one and a half hour sessions each year they attend the school. Students are encouraged to work cooperatively, as independently as possible in our exciting, robust, discovery learning environment.
The school is proud to be the first and currently, the only school in New Zealand to have available a Versa Laser cutting and engraving machine where students are encouraged to use the latest technology available in industry.
